13 After Dark Halloween Movies – Classics for Adults

I recently made a list of non-spooky movies for kids to view through Halloween. Well, now it’s time to list the after dark Halloween movies that the kids won’t see for years.

These are some of the Classic Halloween movies from over the years and should definitely be watched this Hallowen season

Rosemary’s Baby is a 1968 American psychological horror film with supernatural horror elements. The story of a pregnant woman who suspects that an evil cult wants to take her baby for use in their rituals.

1970’s

The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a 1975 musical science-fiction horror-comedy film.  The production is a parody tribute to the science fiction and horror B movies of the 1930s through to the early 1970s.

After Dark Halloween MoviesA Nightmare on Elm Street is a 1984 American slasher film. The plot revolves around four teenagers who are stalked and killed in their dreams and in reality, by a killer with a bladed glove. The teenagers are unaware of the cause of this strange phenomenon. Their parents hold a dark secret from long ago.Friday the 13th is an American horror franchise that comprises twelve slasher films. The franchise mainly focuses on the fictional character Jason Voorhees. He drowned as a boy at Camp Crystal Lake due to the negligence of the camp staff. Decades later, the lake is rumoured to be “cursed” and is the setting for a series of mass murders.

The Amityville Horror is a book by American author Jay Anson, published in September 1977. It is also the basis of a series of films released from 1979 onwards. The book is claimed to be based on the paranormal experiences of the Lutz family.


The Shining is a 1980 horror film based on Stephen King’s 1977 novel The Shining.

Child’s Play is a 1988 American slasher film.  A widowed mother gives her son a doll for his birthday. She is unaware that the doll is possessed by the soul of an infamous serial killer.

Poltergeist is a 1982 American supernatural horror film.  Set in a California suburb, the plot focuses on a family whose home is invaded by ghosts. The family’s younger daughter is abducted.

1990’s

Scream is a 1996 American slasher film.  Scream follows the character of Sidney Prescott, a high school student in the fictional town of Woodsboro, California.  She becomes the target of a mysterious killer known as Ghostface.

I have watched these movies many times over even though they scare the crap out of me. Yes, even knowing what happens I still get scared. It’s like watching them for the first time.
