Gardening Time

I love spring time and the warm weather. It means it is time for us to all get outside and enjoy every moment of it. For me, I love to spend time in my garden. At the beginning of spring it is usually quite a bit of hard work. Raking up leaves that were missed in the fall, adding more dirt, and the most important thing for me is to make sure that my perennials are waking up and coming alive to a new year of growth.

In the back I have 3 sections of garden. the oldest section has my favourites, my orange lilies, purple clematis and a small bush. The only ones that remain from when I first started my gardens years ago. ( lost plants destroyed by puppies) My lilies multiply every year in an abundance and I have been able to spread them into all of my garden areas in the front and back yard.

This year I want to focus on veggies and herbs. The big decision is deciding what herbs we use the most and what veggies I can get my family to eat. Time to get over to the garden centres and check out what’s available.

While I spend money filling empty spaces in my garden with annual plant, I prefer to focus on perennials, they come back every year, giving me more time to spend enjoying my garden and coming up with some new Fresh Recipes, right from my very own garden.

Do You have a garden? What are your favourite plants and flowers to grow?

  1. I have a garden. I love it! I’m really looking forward to getting a chance to plant it although it probably won’t happen for another month (I’m in Ontario, Canada). My kids are just at the age (3) where they can help with weeding and picking. I get such pride in growing food for my family, neighbours and our local food bank. I plant tomatoes, onions, beets (our favourite), beans, peas, onions, lettuce, chard, zucchini and spinach. I also have a bunch of wild herbs.
