Historical Fictionalized TV Shows – Reign

I have recently started watching a series that is one of many, historical Fictionalized TV shows. While the stories seem to follow the facts to a certain extent, the writers have added in non truths to make the series a bit more interesting. Some characters on the show may not have actually been part of history.

One of the Historical Fictionalized TV shows that we chose to watch was Reign.

Reign dates back to about 1557 and tells the tale of a young Mary, Queen of Scots early days living in France.

The quote below is from the opening credits of the show and pretty much sums up the plot.

“Since Mary, Queen of Scotland, was a child the English have wanted her country and her crown. She is sent to France to wed its next king, to save herself and her people – a bond that should protect her, but there are forces that conspire, forces of darkness, forces of the heart. Long may she reign.”

Historical Fictionalized Tv Shows Reign

We started watching Reign in December with a few episodes here and there but we finally gave in and watched every episode and are currently awaiting the next episode when it airs mid January 2015.

During the show I found myself doing google searches to find out what was in fact real and what was fiction.

The show was filmed in Toronto and Ireland and has a great cast of characters, including Canadian actress Megan Follows as the ruthless Catherine, Queen of France.

Reign can be seen on Netflix at your pace or weekly on CW every Thursday.

It is a highly addictive show and I would recommend to any one who likes these types of shows, especially if you are a fan of the Royal Family.

Are there any Historical Fictionalized TV Shows that you watch? Does History fascinate you?

I’ll have to check this out on Netflix! I’m not the biggest fan of historical shows (I keep thinking, if only they had a smartphone, LOL,) though this one does sound interesting. I love checking out shows that were filmed in town! Thanks for the heads up. 🙂

Aeryn, I wasn’t really into historical shows either but this one is so addictive. I think you will really like it. I also love the fact that it was filmed partly in Canada and Ireland. We have just started Vikings which is another historical sort of show and again it is produced by a Canadian film company and filmed overseas. It is hard to believe how people actually lived back then.

I had not heard of Reign before, but I would love to see Megan Follows in it. I have not seen her act since she was in Anne of Green Gables. That was really a long time ago!
