Quick and Easy Stove Top Meals for Picky Eaters

Over the past 6 days, we have only been able to cook with our stove top or small kitchen appliances. When we went grocery shopping, we picked up a variety of items for the week. When you have a picky eater, it is sometimes hard to find quick and easy stove top meals.

I found out my oven wasn’t working when I turned the oven on to heat it up for a pizza. After about 20 minutes, I hadn’t heard the beep letting me know the oven was ready. I went into the kitchen and opened up the door, only to find it cold.

Living in an apartment building I am unable to BBQ on the balcony. That would make life easier. Now I had to figure out what to make for breakfast, lunch and dinners. I looked through the food I had and planned out meals.

During our grocery shopping trip, I picked up our weekly fruits and veggies, bread and buns and a few other items I would be able to use to make dinners.

We just ran out of stove top meals and will need to head to the grocery store a few days early.

Meals for my husband and I are pretty easy, I wasn’t worried about us, I was more concerned with my daughter eating. Who wants to eat the same thing every day? Not me, and not my daughter. She likes to snack constantly and snacks go fast. A weeks worth of snacks goes quickly when you are constantly eating them.

Pancakes and Syrup

During the day my daughter is at summer camp, where meals and snacks are provided.  Before she heads out for the day, she either has toast or frozen waffles. I can tell you that this week she ate a few items she doesn’t normally eat. I also send her with snacks for those times she refuses what she is given.

Burgers, hot dogs and salads

While we survived the stove top meals with what we had on hand, most of the groceries I had bought were to make snacks, freezer meals and some bread. I wasn’t completely prepared. I like to stick to my budget and not dip into my next grocery budget.

What are some of your favourite easy meals? What are your favourite small kitchen appliances?
