If you woke up confused and are wondering, is that the right time, chances are you forgot to set your clock ahead an hour. Don’t worry you can look on your phone or computer, the time automatically changes.
Last night most Canadians will have sprung ahead in time by an hour to Daylight Savings Time (DST).
What is Daylight Savings Time?
Daylight Savings Time is the practice of setting the clocks forward one hour from standard time during the summer months, and back again in the fall, in order to make better use of daylight.
Why it is even done, when only 40% of the countries in the world use Daylight Savings Time. That is the question that many like to ask at this time of the year, why?
Reasons to have Time Change
make use of better natural light
conserve energy
decrease road accidents due to light
Reasons not to have Time Change
more early morning crimes -still dark
there is just no need but that’s the way it is
Maybe one day this will no longer be observed, no matter the change, the days still get lighter and longer each day until fall, when we change them back again.
I think Saskatchewan got it right, the province remains on central standard time year-round. There are other areas of Canada that do not follow DST. So if Saskatchewan is an hour behind Toronto today, does that mean tomorrow there is a 2-hour difference? Are you wondering that now?time difference. Well the answer is yes and in the fall it is back to 1 hour Confused by time? It’s ok, you are not alone.
The days following the time change, we always hear how tired people are by having lack of sleep from that missing hour. In reality, if you go to bed at your usual time and get up at your usual time, there is no real time loss.
Does anyone know what time it really is?
